Some common questions we are asked by email...
| Question | I need a new holster! I've looked at all the big names and I don't like the price. I know people are in business to make a living but they don't need to make it all off me. I've narrowed my decision to three, the Ghost Holster (price $119-$140), Hogue's PowerSpeed (price $97 to 129) and your Aluminator Xv ($94). I'm leaning toward your Aluminator Xv. I like the price and I like the size. I have a question, once the locking mechanism is released and you've loaded and are waiting for the beep, what holds the gun in the holster. I've shot stages where on the beep you had to run to a door or something and then draw and engage the targets. The Ghost Holster has a pin that fits into a hole in the trigger guard and the Hogue Power Speed has the magnets. |
| Answer | The Aluminator-Xv has a latch that engages the trigger guard. When locked it is impossible
for it to be moved out of engagement with the trigger guard unless excessive force is used to bend or break something. When the Aluminator-Xv is in the unlocked state, the gun can only be removed with vertical action. We do not advise running with the holster unlocked as the vertical action could be sufficient to bounce the gun out of the lock. You can't have it both ways, the Aluminator-Xv has zero drag-load on the gun when drawing, this same free movement is what would let the gun come out while running or jumping. If running before un-holstering is a pivotal part of your buying decision then the Aluminator-2 would be a better choice. You can leave it safely locked, and then unlock with a flick of the finger in less than 1/4-second. I am not a stage-rules-expert, but I cannot see how an IPSC/USPSA stage can force you to leave the gun holstered after the buzzer, regardless of where or how far you need to move. I would question the legality of the stage design. A letter to the NROI section of Front Sight would clarify things quickly. On a slightly less related issue, have you seen a gun that has been used with the magnets after a few months of use? Not a pretty sight. I would also doubt a stainless gun could be used with the magnets. I am not trying to turn you away from that holster, just pointing out some of my observations. Both Aluminator models have Delrin plastic only in contact with the gun. |
